Nuwave 20201 Analog-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, White Review

Nuwave 20201 Analog-Controlled Infrared Tabletop Oven, WhiteThose who purchase the Nuwave Oven usually have in mind a healthier, cleaner, and more efficient way to cook. The Nuwave does indeed deliver on these counts. It is a healthy alternative to conventional ovens in that it eliminates more saturated fatty oils than they do. It is cleaner in that the clean up time in considerably less than with a standard oven. And it is more efficient than a standard oven in that the combination of convection/infrared styles of heating do produce a tastier result. Now having said that, the potential purchaser must consider areas that one might not think of until too late.First, the sturdiness and quality of the device is inherently far less than that of either a standard oven or a microwave.Even for those reviewers who rave about their experiences all too often report control quality issues after the first year of use.In many cases the device simpy ceases to function. This brings me to number two: Repair costs are prohibitive. In fact it is cheaper to buy a new unit than to fix the old one. The warranty does not cover beyond the standard period. Finally, the Nuwave does work well but only on one type of food at a time.If you were to cook meat and vegetables together, the result would be that the former turned out well but not the latter. A minor note is that the instructions and cooking suggestions are both poorly worded and at times incomprehensible. The bottom line is that the Nuwave Oven is probably a good deal for those who do not plan to use it for more than one year and intend to cook only one type of food at a time.

Euro-Pro TO251 Convection 6-Slice Toaster Oven with Pizza Pan Review

Euro-Pro TO251 Convection 6-Slice Toaster Oven with Pizza Pan[Update July 10, 2010:Rating downgraded to 3 stars and sinking:broken under warranty.Using their customer service webpage kicks back an email saying to email them, and then emailing them got an email couple of days later to call their 800 number.Haven't had a moment to call them yet but will report back.

As much as I like this thing, the controls have quit functioning, after only 7 months of use (initially stuck on high Grill, then wouldn't turn on). And, for those of us who do not live close to Toronto, warranty service is next to useless, because it costs $37.50 for me to mail it from my location internationally to Toronto, plus $9.95 that they request for return shipping and handling, plus the uncertainty that they will actually repair/replace the thing "if it is found ... to be defective in material or workmanship".I contacted customer service for a better solution (e.g. send me some replacement knob modules), but I don't know if that is possible or feasible --stay tuned for updates. For the moment I am lowering my rating of this toaster to 3 stars because this is too soon to break, but I really like using it and want to give their customer service a chance, though they haven't yet bothered to respond to me (On June 26 I used their website contact page, and on June 30 I sent them email; and I have been checking my spam folder).I hope we can work out a more reasonable way to repair it.For the moment I've moved my old kenmore back into the kitchen -- it has lasted several years and counting, and was replaced only for cosmetic reasons.]

Original review (4 stars):
I bought this from Sears to replace my dirty ugly (but functional) old Kenmore toaster oven.I am pretty happy with it, but there are a few things about it that are not perfect.

I think this toaster oven is the same as many others out there. If you are shopping for toaster ovens, you will see that there are lots of different models and brands offering pretty much the same configuration of controls and features as this one. I suspect that they are all made in the same factory and just have different body styles and name brands slapped on to them.

Anyway, here are some of the features that I like about it:
- It has a "Stay On" setting, so if I am baking something that will take more than 60 minutes I don't have to keep turning up the timer to keep the oven on.
- It offers different cooking combinations of top heat, bottom heat, both, convection on and off.
- It has a bulge in the back ("pizza bump") so that I can put a 12 inch diameter pizza pan in it (one was in the box, but I prefer a pizza screen). Not counting the bulge, the interior is about 9" x 12".It is 4.75 inches from the rack in lowest position to the top heating elements.
- It came with a second rack so I can heat things on two racks at the same time if I want to.
- The stainless steel body means that I can scrub the body without having to worry about removing color (and it looks good)

A few flaws that made me contemplate returning it:
- The outside gets hotter than my older (Kenmore) toaster oven.I put a grill thermometer on the top, when baking at full temp, the top surface reaches 220, about 20 degrees warmer than my old Kenmore.I looked and there appears to be an air gap between the roof of the oven and the outside top surface, but I could not tell if there is any insulation in there. But that means it gets the kitchen hotter, and it provides a hotter warming shelf (plates now get too hot if left too long).[I have moved my ugly old toaster oven out to my patio, and if it is too hot to bake inside, I will bake out there instead.]
- The temperature dial goes down to 150 degrees, but when I have tested it with various cooking modes, the actual oven temperature didn't go lower than 200 in one cooking mode, and 180 in another one.I had been hoping to use this for things like slow roasting and food drying, but that is too hot.
- At the corners of the glass door, there are little cushions that probably protect the glass door from shock, but they also prevent the glass door from closing the whole way, so there is a gap of about 2.5mm to let the heat out (using more electricity and making the kitchen hotter).I haven't decided if this is a feature (perhaps it was felt that some air flow was needed) or a bug.
- If you pull the rack out more than one inch, the back is no longer supported so the back of the rack falls down, and what you are baking slides down to the back. This is a real design flaw, but I have just gotten used to the annoyance and hardly pull the rack out now.

However, in spite of these flaws, I find that I am really happy with the purchase and have enjoyed using its many functions.

Also, note that the ridiculously huge dimensions given in the Amazon listing (at the time of this writing) are the size of the box, not the toaster oven itself. The toaster oven is 17.75 wide x 10.25 tall x 13.5 deep, not counting little bumpers which stick out of the side and back about a half inch to prevent it being pushed too close to walls.

Hamilton Beach 31197R Countertop Oven with Convection and Rotisserie Review

Hamilton Beach 31197R Countertop Oven with Convection and RotisserieI bought this product at Sam's Club the other day. The product is great and I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in a rotisserie. Having a regular toaster oven and a convection oven in the same unit is a great bonus! The unit comes with two wire shelves, two pizza racks (like cookie sheets but with holes in the bottom; great for Hot Pockets) that fit on top of the wire shelves, a 1" deep backing pan, a wire rack that fits inside the backing pan, two rotisserie forks (for holding the meat on the spic), a rotisserie spic, and a rotisserie handle (for lifting it out of a hot oven).

Installation: A piece of cake. The unit comes packed in Styrofoam with the shelves and pans inside the unit; the rotisserie accessories came loose in the box but bagged in plastic. All I had to do was to wipe it down, wash the racks, and plug the box in.

Performance of the toaster oven: It toasts but boy is there a lot of room in here.

Performance of the convection oven: Never having used one before, I was surprised by the fans going off in the oven. But it did its job well cooking a pair of Hot Pockets to crispy perfection in just a little more time than the microwave. Homemade pot pies also cook very well.

Performance of the rotisserie: Great! I've cooked a beef roast and a Rock Cornish Hen and they came out so flavorful, tender, and juicy. The fat melts off this way and the drippings end up at the bottom. Make sure to cover it with a piece of foil. The unit says it can do up to a 7 ½ lb. bird, but I've only tried up to 4 lbs.

Cleanup: The bottom pan slides out for easy cleanup.

Overall I recommend this unit. Although I've never had a rotisserie or a convection oven to compare it to, it is world's better than my toaster oven. It is also ½ the price of the George Forman unit plus adds more. How can one go wrong?

Morningware HO1200M-WOR Infrared Halogen Oven Review

Morningware HO1200M-WOR Infrared Halogen OvenLove this oven. I don't know how much electricity has been saved since we hardly ever use our large oven any more. I would bet it's quite a bit, not to mention all the heat we keep out of the house. " Which is a good thing when you live in Florida ". We generally use this oven a couple of times a day, so it definitely has had plenty of use in the last 2+ years and it's still working like the day we got it. Nearly every thing I cook is done in here. Unlike a microwave oven, meat and chicken brown beautifully, also works great on garlic toast. It also can be set for a delayed start if needed. This works out just fine for the 2 of us, since we don't make large meals, even though this will hold a 8 or 9 lb roast or turkey " Larger if you order it with theextender ring ". This does cook quite a bit faster than a conventional oven, but not as fast as they say it does. And yes it does cook from frozen, it will take longer of course. There cooking chart tells you how long to cook individual items that are frozen or not frozen. All and all this oven has worked out exceptionally well for us, we would be lost without it.

The digital timer can be set from minutes to hours, depending on your needs. The temperature can also be set from 190 deg. to 400 deg. When the timer turns off, the temperature will automatically reset to 190 deg and keeps your food at that safe temperature till you turn the oven off. A nice thing about this oven is the interior is lit up, so you can watch everything cooking. This oven is extremely easy to clean, there is a heavy glass liner on the bottom that comes out easily and is dishwasher safe. That goes for the stainless steel rack also. For most items we generally put aluminum foil on top of the rack, so cleanup is a snap we just throw the foil out. The clear plastic dome very rarely needs cleaning, since the food rarely splatters. But if it does, it's just a matter of wiping it out with a damp cloth.

About 3 1/2 years ago I bought the NuWave oven from a TV commercial. I cost about $130 with shipping the oven and a extra plastic gadget they give you, buthave to pay shipping for. It stopped working in 13 months, one month after the guarantee was up. I liked the way it cooked, but decided to look for an alternative oven. I found this one for less money, without the extra gadget and free shipping. So far I am very well pleased with it, and would highly recommend it.

Product Description:
By using a combination of conduction, convection, halogen light, and infrared rays, this energy-efficient countertop oven not only cooks food up to 50-percent faster than conventional ovens, but it also creates instant heat, eliminating the need for preheating the oven or defrosting food ahead of time. The unit's fast infrared heating eliminates the chance of harmful bacteria growth as with normal defrosting, plus the infrared waves liquefy naturally occurring fats in foods, releasing the grease into the glass drip tray for healthier results. Use the oven for anything from baking, broiling, and roasting to barbecuing, grilling, dehydrating, or re-heating leftovers. Food cooks and browns quickly and evenly and meat stays juicy and tender inside yet perfectly seared on the outside. In addition, the unit offers smokeless, odorless operation that won't heat up the kitchen, and it can hold up to 8 pounds of meat or cook up to a 16-pound turkey with the extender-ring attachment (not included).
rom the bottom up, the unit features a plastic base, a nonstick glass tray, a dual-position stainless-steel grill, an FDA-approved polycarbonate dome, and a halogen powerhead with a user-friendly digital control panel. Choose from one of four levels for a preset time and temperature or manually set the cooking time and temperature from 190 to 400 degrees F. A sound beeps at the end of the cooking time, and the appliance automatically decreases the temperature to 190 degrees F to keep the food warm for up to three hours. Other highlights include a one-hour 59-minute delay timer, an interior light, and a dishwasher-safe design (except for the power head) for easy cleanup. A quick reference cooking chart, owner's manual, and recipe booklet come included. The 1200-watt halogen oven measures 13 by 11 by 14 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty."

Hamilton Beach 31199XR Countertop Convection Oven Review

Hamilton Beach 31199XR Countertop Convection OvenI LOVE this oven, I've had it before!! Its PERFECT for Breads, muffins, cupcakes, cookies, etc!!!BUT, I DON'T use it for ANY greasy foods....Only because the oil (from the meats, chickens, etc)splatters, and SLOWLY gets stuck on the fan part(convection setting), and after a few months, the fan for the Convection oven setting slowly stops rotating at the speed it should. Its difficult to open up, and clean off the blades to the fan also. So, but as far as the oven goes, its great, for ALL PASTRIES!!! Cooks the breads, etc, evenly, and perfectly everytime!!! Pizza works very well in here too! We make our own 12" pizzas and use this oven ALL the time!! As far as the shipping company goes,"CEVA", IT'S AWFUL,AWFUL,AWFUL.*** Amazon should change the shipping company! They were LATE, after I waited way past my delivery time, they told me they were running late, and i had to wait a few hours more. they are NOT punctual at all, and they do not ring the bell.they leave the item at the front door!! No Good!!!

Deni 10400 Quick-n-Easy 10-4-Quart Convection Oven Review

Deni 10400 Quick-n-Easy 10-4-Quart Convection OvenHello all, I have had my Deni oven for about 5 years now and it still works fine ! I have had at least 5 Jetstream Ovens burn out on me over the last 15 years or so,none lasting much over a year ! But I tell you no lie the Jetstream Ovens puts the Deni and the FlavorWave to shame when it comes to cooking things like Air Fried Chicken, pizza and hot dogs !I did not have to turn my chicken over when I used the Jetstream Ovens because of the high air output of the Jetstream Ovens"4000 RPM fan speed"! But I do have to turn the chicken over when it comes to the low air output of the Deni and FlavorWave ovens!

The Deni and FlavorWave are far more durable then the Jetstream Ovens, but when it comes to cooking, they just can't compete, their air output is way too low !!!The FlavorWave cooks far better then the Deni,on a scale of 1 to ten...10 being the highest I would give the FlavorWave maybe a high 7 to a low 8,and I would give the Deni a five or low 6,but the JetStream Ovens I would give a high 9 or 10 !I hate the fact that the Jetstream Ovens don't last long, and I wish I could find a durable low priced convection oven with the same high 4000 RPM fan speed of the Jetstream Ovens, but after looking for many years I have had no luck what so ever !

I give the Deni a 4 out of 5 over all rating because I love how durable and reliable it is ! The Deni seems to be the most durable out of the 3 ovens! But as far as cooking goes,it needs a far more powerful fan in it! When I cook pizza in the Deni the top comes out fine but the bottom comes out soft and half uncooked! I have to overcook the top in order to cook the bottom the way I like it!The FlavorWave did a better job with the pizza! On a scale of 1 to ten I would give the Deni a 4 on pizza, the FlavorWave would get a 7 or 8 and the Jetstream would get a 9 or 10! I must warn you that the Jetstream can blow any light weight toppings on the pizza around if you don't put a rack right above the pizza to hold and keep the toppings in place. But to me that's a small price to pay. As far as air fried chicken goes that is where the JetStream Oven blows the Deni and the FlavorWave completely away !

I would rate the Deni a 4, the FlavorWave a 7 and the Jetstream oven a 10 + when it comes to Air Fried Chicken . The FlavorWave gets a 7 because it does a good job on the chicken, its nice and juicy on the inside and the skin is done fairly well . Now when it comes to the Jetstream..not only is the chicken nice and juicy, but the skin is cooked to Perfection!!!!It comes out better then real fried chicken skin, but without all the grease !I am hooked on the Jetstream oven mostly because of how great of a job it does on cooking Air Fried Chicken !!!

Let me say it again, I hate the durability or lack of durability of the Jetstream ovens, and I and many others wish Nesco would make their ovens to last !
Nesco won't even offer an extended warranty on their Jetstream ovens,so what does that tell you about the quality or lack of durability of the Jetstream ovens ?But it still looks like I have to buy another Jetstream oven if I want the best Air Fried Chicken in town !I still wish someone would make a high air output convection oven that is durable,so that I could tell Nesco where to go with their great cooking, low durability, falling apart, and cracking into many pieces Jetstream ovens !!!!!!!

As far as the Deni oven goes,I can say it is very very durable,no melting parts,no cracking,no falling apart ! On the other hand,it is only so so when it comes to cooking with its weak low speed fan !

Here's how I rate the 3 ovens on a scale of 1 to ten 10!

Deni
Durability 10
Cooking5

FlavorWave
Durability9
Cooking 7 or 8

Jetstream
Durability3
Cooking 9 or 10
