Norpro Krona 10-Inch Egg Poacher Skillet Set Review

In a competitor's (let's say Brand X) poacher with plastic (ugh) cups, the thermal conductivity of the cups is so low that eggs effectively cook only from the top down from being directly exposed to the steam.Result:after 9 minutes of poaching (at 7300 feet), the yolk (which floats on top) and the top half of the egg white are firm; meanwhile the egg white on the bottom still quivers like jelly and is semi-transparent (ugh).And the cooking pan is quite shallow (just under one and one half inches inner measure), with the result that boiling water easily spills over on top of the poaching eggs, creating a real mess inside and out.
The stainless steel egg cups on this unit are perfectly formed and slightly flattened on the bottom with a thermal conductivity so good that eggs cook pretty equally from all sides.The pan is quite deep (just under two and three-eight inches inner measure) so that the poaching tray rides very high over the surface of the boiling water.The result is a perfectly poached egg, no messes, to whatever degree of firmness of the white one wants.Yet one can still have a soft or partially soft yolk, impossible to achieve with "Brand X" above.At an elevation of 7300 feet, poaching time using this pan for a firm white and medium (non-runny) yolk was 6 minutes; for a firm white and softer yolk, between 4 and 5 minutes.Lower elevations should adjust these times downward a minute or two.
Because of its' stainless steel composition, depth and diameter, the pan can also be used for other cooking.Indeed, this reviewer dares to suggest that despite its higher price, this unit is almost a mandatory addition to any good cook's staple of cooking utensils.Because of bad past experiences with the kind of riveted handle attachment to the pan used here, which breaks off too easily, this reviewer docks this unit one-half star.Aside from that, the design and materials of this product are generous indeed; it's appearance is so attractive that this reviewer left it sitting on top of the range as general décor.The only other gripe is with the shipping expense which was one-fourth of the total cost.But in all fairness the heavy-duty packaging did protect the glass lid and unit as a whole.

Fagor 4-Piece Egg Poacher Set Review

A very high quality piece of specialized kitchen equipment. Does a perfect job of poaching. The glass lid lets you moniter the cooking process and it's vented. Has a nice weight and the teflon cups keep the eggs whole.
It's as easy as making a soft-boiled egg.
If I had to do it again I probably would have bought the 6 egg model because now the whole family want's poached eggs.

T-Fal/Wearever 7124530 Comet 3-Egg Poacher Review

I'll say that I love this product. I purchased 2 of the same product in 1987. I finally had to trash them, as the non-stick coating was so gone, that it was a disaster trying to remove the eggs.

I just purchased 2 more. However, I thought that maybe I should try another brand first, as I saw that several other brands looked better, cost more, but must be better (assuming that they were). Well, no way! I will write a review on one of the others advertised here that I got about 3 weeks ago.

First off, there are no cons about this poacher.

Here are the things I love and missing on others: 1) I love the depth and size of each of the depressions. I always coat the depressions with margerine before inserting the eggs in each depression. 2) Done Eggs slip out with no problem 3) Years ago I used ones with individual cups but actually prefer this with depressions better. Here's why: If you look at the picture you may see a small slot and a round hole. You use either to remove the top plate using a silverware knife or any utensil that fits the hole. Using the utensil to remove the top plate, I transfer to the other hand with a potholder. Using a small flexible plastic spatula coax the eggs out. They slip out easily and saves time over using/washing individual cups.

Now that I think about it more, I would like to have a vented-glass lid to see the progress. Another thing, after using a 4-banger from another company, I would love to have an additional egg depression. I bought two units because I like 2 eggs and my wife likes two. I have used 2 units for many years, so it is natural.

For my money, this unit is MUCH better than more expensive ones. As I mentioned, I bought others when I had to throw out my old ones. I bought 3 other more expensive units and they are a waste of money....literally.

Buy this unit and, despite only 3 egg slots, it's all-around the best.

BTW, I've seen others say they can't get the timing down.

1/4 inch of water in the pan
I will coat with margerine and then add eggs before starting the burner.
Start the burner on high.
We like toast, so when the unit starts steaming, turn down to 3/4 and start the toast. When the medium toast pops, the eggs are just about ready (soft, but not jellied). Toast to the plates, knife to the top plate, burner off, switch to pot holder(ed) hand, slide out on the toast!

Progressive International Microwavable Four Egg Poacher Review

Good micro poacher.

Pros: Works great

Cons: none so far

Be sure to poke the yokes and whites with a fork before cooking to keep the explosions to a minimum.;-)
Also add half a teaspoon of water under and on top of eggs before cooking.
30 seconds per egg on med-high (7 out of 10 setting) Adjust time + or - 10 sec for desired yokeage liquidity.;-)Ya know what i'm talkin' bout.

Trudeau Microwave Double Egg Poacher Review

This is a great product and works well in the Microwave.BUT... please use caution.I got a pretty good burn thismorning.It would have been worse except that I had let theegg sit for 2-3 minutes.I cooked the egg in the microwave 1:15 which is a about right for one egg.It looked good, just about right.Put it between two slices of toast.Half way though the sandwich, it "exploded."Apparently a steam pocket had built up in the yolk, and when I bit into it -- bam.It made enough noise to get my wife's attention across the kitchen.My face still hurts 12 hours later.If it had happened right after cooking, I suspect it would have been much worse.
