Le Creuset Iron Handle Skillet - Black, Chestnut, Dune, Red Review

Like others, I bought this pan after the New York Times review came out on alternatives to teflon (the review said that this pan was terrific).My husband and I eat omelets for dinner several nights a week and our teflon pans were starting to lose their nonstick properties.This pan can work well for cooking eggs. The trick, as others have noted, is to preheat the pan on low to medium heat and then to give it a light coat of oil before adding anything to it.The day I received the pan I made a 5-egg omelet and it came out well -- I was easily able to flip the whole thing without it breaking.I've also made over-easy eggs and they have come out well too.I like this pan better than my old teflon ones because it's less delicate, it's dishwasher-safe, and I don't need to worry about the coating losing its effectiveness.Plus, it produces food with a nice surface, which teflon has a hard time doing.It is not quite as nonstick as a teflon pan, but it gets the job done (and is much more nonstick than stainless).I'm pleased with the purchase.

Lodge 1-Pint Country Kettle Review

Strictly speaking this is not a "caldron" -- a caldron should have an opening narrower than its belly, or so I've been told.Nonetheless this is a very good size for use on personal or portable altars.Placed on a tile it's safe to burn charcoal blocks in, and the price is excellent.

Calphalon One Nonstick 13-Inch Deep Skillet with Glass Lid Review

I truly love this skillet!As a serious cook with a large family, I use it often for pasta, stews, stir frying -- you name it.It holds enough for my brood without being too heavy to handle.

The quality really makes it worth the price.It heats up quickly and evenly and cleans up with just a quick wipe!

The only complaint I've had with this pan is that I can't use my favorite utensils with it (you can only use nylon/silicone utensils). And yet, ironically, Calphalon has put metal around the rim and handle of the glass lid which tends to scratch the pan when you store them together.Otherwise, it's a terrific piece of cookware that anyone would enjoy using!

Cuisinart CSK-150 1500-Watt Nonstick Oval Electric Skillet Review

I was a little nervous when I bought this skillet, since at the time there were no product reviews on it, but I was desperate, and since I had had good luck with other Cuisinart products, I took the chance.Am I glad I did!We were just beginning a major kitchen remodel, which meant that for at least two months I would have to improvise cooking facilities for 5 adults and a grandchild.This skillet has been a real workhorse for me, and a genuine lifesaver (and budget-saver) during the remodel.Its cost was no more than 2 dinners for my family at a moderate-cost restaurant, and I saved that much the first week by cooking those dinners at home in this skillet instead.Its large capacity makes it extremely versatile.I've used it to fry chicken, make one-pan dinners, cook bacon and eggs, frozen blintzes, pot roast, stir-fry meals, you name it. It makes a beautiful risotto, and I've even used it to cook corn on the cob and boil potatoes.Everything came out exactly as I'd hoped, or better. I am especially happy with the Cuisinart's solid, sturdy base that won't let the skillet tip over and endanger the cook (or the curious grandchild).I also love the sturdy nonstick surface, which after two months of frequent use is still like new, in contrast to some nonstick pans I've had where the coating scratches or wore off so quickly that by the 3rd or 4th use the food had to be chipped out.The temperature control responds very quickly, too. You can certainly buy a cheaper electric skillet, but if you use it frequently, a cheap pan will be trash in a short time and you may not be happy with the way it performs in that short lifetime.This Cuisinart is worth every penny, and I expect to be using mine for a long, long time.

Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover Review

The 16" size of this Presto skillet actually ended up saving room in my kitchen because it replaced both an electric griddle and an old 12" electric skillet. This pan can be used for all kinds of cooking: griddling, frying, grilling, braising, roasting, even baking. The sides are high enough to use it as a chicken fryer or for stirfry. I can check how bacon is frying through the glass lid, minimizing spatter, if any. The temperature control is accurate and the pan heats up quickly, unlike my electric stovetop. In fact, you can get a perfect simmer by turning the knob down just till the light goes out. Also nothing sticks to it. The only two things you have to remember are: 1)spray it with Pam or some other cooking spray the first time you use it (just the first time), and 2)to maintain the nonstick coating, never soak it in water for extended periods (you won't need to soak it, it cleans up fast and easy). I really like this skillet and recommend it highly. I bought it in February and have used it regularly ever since.

NOTE: It is now May 2008 and I still use this electric skillet at least once or twice a week. It has held up beautifully and still looks new. I have to tighten the leg screws now and then but I'm not complaining. I would give this pan six stars if I could.
NOTE: It is now October 2008 and we still use this skillet a couple of times per week at least. It takes about 3 minutes to clean after it cools. I can cook just about anything in it. I like its temperature accuracy and the quick control I have over the heat. I use it all the time.
NOTE: It's now February 2009, and two years since I bought this skillet. I still use it at least once a week and it is holding up just fine. Other than tightening the leg/handle screws now and then, it works as well as the day I received it.
NOTE: It's now January 2010 and the skillet is still going strong. No problems with it at all. We use it every weekend for egg & pancake breakfasts with all the trimmings.

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized 8-Inch Open Skillet Review

I bought a set of these Cuisinarts about 9 months ago. This skillet was included in the set, as well as a smaller one and several pots.

Pros:
Excellent heat conduction. Stays hot, cooks evenly and transfer from oven to stovetop and back is very convenient.

Cons:
The nonstick coating is not really working anymore. Though these have never been in the dishwasher or been scrubbed with anything heavier than a sponge, the nonstick coating has slowly burned off in patches, and now, though it hasn't peeled or flaked, there are spots where the food will stick and nonstick spray or oil must be used. This is a pity because I was very careful not to overheat the pans--they have really been babied. I will probably buy another Cuisinart though, but this pan will need to be replaced within a few months.
