A dutch oven is one of the most versatile items you can find.Many people I know are intimidated by cooking with dutch ovens, but when you take a few minutes to learn how, you can use it to cook anything!It can be used with variety of foods: stews, cakes, cobblers, breads, poultry, vegetables (basically anything you make in a conventional oven).If you happen to forget to pack your skillet when you go camping, turn over the lid and put it back on the dutch oven.Voila!Instant skillet-type cooking surface!

Having used a variety of dutch ovens in my life, I can tell you for sure, Lodge dutch ovens are the best.They are durable and well-crafted.If you have ever had the experience of cooking with a dutch oven that was not a Lodge, you will know what I mean.

You should look for a dutch oven that has a lip on the lid for keeping coals on, and sturdy legs, to keep from crushing the coals.Lodge dutch ovens have these features, and are made of quality cast iron.Lodge also has many accessories for cooking, such as lid lifters and lid rests, inserts for muffins, etc.

Dutch ovens make a great gift for the camper in your life.Highly recommended!

Product Description:
Original finish 6 qt camp dutch oven.The portable "camp stove" is the pot that does it all.Flanged lid for hot coals inverts for use as griddle.Integral legs on oven for campfire and fireplace cooking.12" diameter, 3-3/4" deep. To season, follow these easy directions - Wash with hot, soapy water and a stiff brush. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Spead a thin coat of solid shortening or vegetable oil over the entire pan including handles and exterior surfaces. Line the lower oven rack with aluminum foil to catch any drippings and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place cookware upside down on middle rack of oven and bake for 1 hour. Turn off the oven, leaving the cookware in the oven until cool. Your cookware will look slightly brown, instead of the familiar black but it is ready for cooking. It will blacken with cooking.

Rome's #129 12 Inch x 28 Inch Pioneer Large Camp Grill, Chrome Plated Steel Review

We often cook over a fire pit shoveled out of the ground.I was having difficulty finding a grill that would span a larger diameter hole.This grill does a splendid job.It is thick enough to support the weight of several pots and pans, while suspended over the fire with only several inches of the ends on the ground.And since it is rectangular, instead of circular, I have space to easily feed small sticks to get the fire to flare up.

It isn't a thick, heavy grill, so I wait until the fire has burned down a bit before putting it over the flames.I don't want to weaken it.If it were heavier, I would give it 5 stars, but then it would also be much more expensive.

Rome's #123 Camp Ring Grill Grate, Chrome Plated Steel Review

I ordered 2 of these grates to go on in an 85 gallon drum that I converted into a smoker.These were the only grates I found that were close to the 26" diameter of my drum, so I jumped at them.I've cooked 5 slabs of ribs, 3 boston butts, countless chicken leg quarters and a few other odds and ends on them so far and they're still like new!The shipping from the buyer was faster than Amazon originally predicted too!If I had a complaint (which I don't), it'd be that the grates don't have handles.No worries though, the Rome camp grates are definitely worth the price.

Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned Drop Biscuit Pan Review

I'm having so much fun with this pan! Makes melt in the mouth drop biscuits--I use the recipe for buttermilk drop biscuits in the "Cast Iron for Dummies" cookbook--that are just as pretty and fluffy as rolled biscuits. Just don't forget to preheat the pan! I've turned out excellent "spoon" yeast rolls in this pan too, and it works great for baking individual pineapple upside down cakes. I use cast iron for nearly all my cooking and this pan is a welcome addition to my kitchen.
