Lodge Color Enamel 3-Quart Dutch Oven, Emerald Review

Perfect size for singles/couples or for side dishes for families.

The cast iron is great for heat retention and durability. The enamel coating allows for more versatility than regular cast. The green is a beautiful green that is close to what is shown on screen.

I love the fact that you can start a dish on stovetop and then transfer to oven, all in one pot. Food tastes delicious and cleanup is a breeze.

Some tips from the brochure:

The porcelain surface eliminates the need to season cast iron. The black rim on the pot and lid are matte porcelain, not exposed cast iron.

The knob is oven safe to 400 degrees.

Hygienic porcelain enamel is non-reactive with food.

Use for any cooking technique, as well as to marinate, refrigerate, and freeze.

Lodge Color Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron cookware can be used on gas, electric, ceramic, and induction cooktops, as well as in the oven. It is not recommended for use on outdoor grills, or over open outdoor flames.

Do not use in the microwave.

Cleaning and Care Tips:

Hand wash with warm soapy water. Use plastic scouring pads to assist in cleaning.

For persistent stains on Lodge Color Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron cookware, soak interior of the cookware for 2 to 3 hours with a solution of bleach, consisting of one teaspoon of bleach per pint of water.

If there is baked on food on the cookware, boil a mixture of 1 cup of water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda in the cookware.

This original finish 9 qt Dutch oven with iron cover cooks meats to perfection. The original slow cooker. 13 1/4" diameter, 4 3/4" deep. To season, follow these easy directions - Wash with hot, soapy water and a stiff brush. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Spead a thin coat of solid shortening or vegetable oil over the entire pan including handles and exterior surfaces. Line the lower oven rack with aluminum foil to catch any drippings and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place cookware upside down on middle rack of oven and bake for 1 hour. Turn off the oven, leaving the cookware in the oven until cool. Your cookware will look slightly brown, instead of the familiar black but it is ready for cooking. It will blacken with cooking.

Lodge 1-Pint Country Kettle Review

Strictly speaking this is not a "caldron" -- a caldron should have an opening narrower than its belly, or so I've been told.Nonetheless this is a very good size for use on personal or portable altars.Placed on a tile it's safe to burn charcoal blocks in, and the price is excellent.

Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned Straight-sided Muffin/Cornbread Pan Review

The only disappointment I had was that I was expecting a full sized muffin - though they did accurately give the measurements - I just didn't check. ....I agree with the earlier review...bigger than a mini, smaller than a regular.One bonus is that it fits well in a toaster oven and bakes in less than half the time on convection mode.

Lodge Logic 6-Quart Pre-Seasoned Camp Dutch Oven Review

Before my wife and I were recently married, we both enjoyed camping with groups.Now we are establishing our own collection of camping equipment, and enjoying camping on our own.In studying camping, I became intrigued by the Dutch oven, and the fact that you can do about anything with it you can with a stove and oven at home - bake, broil, boil, fry, roast, etc.Mainly, I dreamed of making a pizza in camp!
Reasearching many publications by Dutch oven fanatics, one thing was consistent: Lodge is the best.They also recommend starting with a 12" oven, as most recipes are for this size.(Probably because a 12" oven has nearly the same bottom area as a standard 9x13 baking dish or cake pan.)
I can't compare against any other makes, as I don't have any, but this oven does not disappoint.It seems well-made, and the lid fits precisely as it should.
I didn't want to pay extra for the seasoning, but with Super Saver shipping, Amazon was selling this for almost half what I could get the non-pre-seasoned model for shipped from anywhere else. (Most mail-order retailers add an additional fee for the heavy Dutch oven on top of their regular shipping charge.)I am amazed at how easy it is to clean, even with my amateur experiments.I haven't had to use any more than very little scrubbing with a Scotch-Brite pad to get a few stubborn spots off, and the pre-seasoning allowed me to bake with it the evening it arrived!
In the first week, I've tried brownies, pizza, sourdough rolls, cinnamon rolls, baked macaroni and cheese, and fried up bacon on the lid.I'm looking forward to getting a lifetime of use out of this, and will shortly add some other sizes. (I suspect the 8" will be better for casserole-type meals for just me and my wife.)

Lodge Striped Hot Handle Holders/Mitts, Set of 2 Review

These pot handle holders are easy to use.I have Circulon Cookware that I really love but the handles are stainless steel so they get very hot.I just slide one over the handle and am able to lift the pans easily out of the oven or off the stove.
