Wilton Excelle Elite 12-Cup Muffin Pan Review

The pan works extremely well:bakes and browns evenly.The thing is so non-stick that pam beads up and hardly does anything.I haven't brought myself not to use pam, but given the beading, I doubt it does much good.The muffins do stick slightly in the corners unless you let them cool for about 10 minutes in the pan, then they slide right out.The whole thing is non-stick, so cleaning is a breeze and baked on spillage slides right off.

The only problem is that with the handles, which are tremendously helpful in keeping your oven mitt out of the batter or baked good, the pan is so long that it does not fit front to back in my oven, which is a full size range.I thus need to turn it sideways and cannot put two pans on one shelf.Not a major negative, but something to consider.

Not that these things are likely to rust, but an easy way to take care of them is to hand wash them and put them back into the still-warm oven to dry.Works like a charm.

Calphalon Nylon Slotted Turner Review

We received a variety of these Calphalon nylon utensils (including this slotted turner) as a gift almost a year ago. They are defintiely heat resistant, but they have not proven to be very durable in other regards. I am already looking to replace them and won't be buying this "model" again for a couple of reasons:

First, the edges have "flaked". I am not sure how else to describe it, they aren't exactly cracked but layers of the material have peeled away and this caused little bits of the utensil to break free and add unwanted "seasoning" to my dishes.

Second, they bend fairly easily- not too bad, but enough to be annoying.The silicon grip peeled up at the stress point within weeks. It appears that the grip just isn't mounted well and comes apart a little more with each use.

Third, though they claim to be dishwasher safe, one pass through the washer left them with what look like bleach stains.

Overall I am not completely dissatisfied, after all they do the job (albeit with mediocre performance). I don't feel like the purchase price of these would be a waste by any means, they certainly perform better than cheapo plastic utensils.However, I have used better and would recommend considering an alternative.

Salter 11-Pound Electronic Scale with Stainless Steel Top Review

I originally purchased a Soehlne Hippo scale and gave it four stars.It went "bonkers" in less than 30 days, so I updated my review and would have downgraded it to "1" star, if I had been able to do so.I replaced the defective scale with the Salter 6055, which was the other scale that I considered purchasing.So far, I'm extremely pleased with the Salter.If it lasts longer than 30 days (the Soehlne didn't), then it's definitely a 5 star piece of equipment.The scale is more compact than the Soehlne, much more "hefty" in feel, and very much easier to use.The on/off, tare, and kg/lb buttons require only a light touch to operate.The readout is clear and actually shows weights in both odd and even amounts.The ounce/lb. readout shows amounts in 1/8 oz. increments; very nice touch.The removeable weighing platform is extremely handy; if you're a "messy" baker, which I am, you don't have to fret about water or soap damage to the electronic components.Based on the short time I've had to try out this item, I'd definitely purchase a Salter product instead of a Soehlne.
