VillaWare V5225 Crepe Maker Review

VillaWare V5225 Crepe MakerI grew up in a Crepe lovin' household. We had sweet crepes for breakfast, savory crepes for lunch and meat filled crepes for dinner.
I always have used a stove top crepe pan and thought it slow and kind of a pain. That is how my dad always did it so I always thought it was the best way.
Not anymore. A friend recommended I try the Villaware electric crepe maker. Non stick coating, quick and easy. Boy were they right. Just dip the the cooker in the pan they include and you are making a crepe every 25 seconds or so. Easy to clean. I love this thing. Good recipes too, altough their basic recipe is not sweet enough.
If you love crepes. This is the piece to get.

Hamilton Beach 59785 2-Speed Hand Blender with Case, Black Review

Hamilton Beach 59785 2-Speed Hand Blender with Case, BlackWe had a Rival immersion which was highly rated for a short time before I burned out the motor making whip cream.I since bought a regular mixer for making whip cream it does a far better job than an immersion blender.

I make a lot of cream soups and it is great for that without lugging out the big blender not to mention the clean up, the blender will soon be relegated to the basement as a back up.I like the case, it puts everything in one place and easy to store away. There is a milk shake attachment which is very nice and a whipping attachment, I suppose that would be much better for whip cream.I can see a lot of shakes and smoothies coming this summer with my new toy.

Someone mentioned clean up in the dish washer, a little tip for any immersion blender. As soon as I finish with it, I fill a glass or bowl with hot sudsy water and buzz it for a few seconds and then rinse, works great and just wipe off and put away, couldn't be easier.

Another hint if you get this one.It isn't entirely obvious or intuitive that the blender comes with the attachment adapter to use the shake and mixer already installed but doesn't work with the regular blender blade. You have to twist the attachment adapter off and install the blade. It may not make sense at the moment, but when you get it you will say,ah, that is what he meant.

My initial impression of this unit is very good.

Sushezi Sushi Made Easy Review

Sushezi Sushi Made EasyI looked at about 5-6 different sushi makers recently (including the $20,000 sushi robot).Sushezi seemed the best bang for the buck.It arrived today (along with a rice cooker) via Amazon Prime so I didn't even get a chance to get impatient about it.

I've made sushi for years now with the little bamboo mat.I'm pretty handy in general and have had good results with the primitive tools, but still get more than half of the attempts at rolls to have a few end pieces collapsing, the roll irregular, etc.I DO have a life and I don't want to spend it perfecting being a sushi chef.

The Sushezi does one thing and it does it well: it makes a perfect large sushi roll and it does it quickly.I was both cooking and talking on Second Life to a friend and I compared chat time-stamps.I assembled ingredients (the rice was ready before I started), cut up a few veggies, found and opened a nori package, scrounged some of that orange caviar from my freezer, fake crab, leftover smoked clams, cream cheese, etc.I made four rolls.45 minutes after the chat start mark, I had uploaded a photo of a plate of samples of each roll and sent it to my friend. If you've ever made sushi before, you know that's absurdly fast.

The Sushezi has a solid feel to it.There's nothing small and delicate that's going to break and leave you with a worthless product (versus, say, those cheap plastic cookie presses).

I'm staying with the very solid 5-star rating, but there are some downsides.First of all, it really needs a narrow diameter counterpart. That is to say, a Sushezi roll that can be wrapped with half a nori sheet.(Note: I e-mailed the company asking about that and got a very quick reply saying that they didn't have such a device.Disappointed though I was, I appreciated the fast and honest reply.)Next, if you're into inside-out rolls, this won't work. It's not designed to, so there's no reason to take away points.

Finally, the company suggests other uses for the product. This is cool: Cheese logs and cookies as a bonus is good. However, I just want to make good, consistent sushi rolls and do it quickly and easily.Sushezi worked exacly as presented. As I said earlier, a lot of bang for the buck. You do sushi rolls?Get this.

Plunge the rice right through the tube onto a nori sheet. After rolling up the nori sheet, use a wet, clean knife to create round slices. The Sushezi also can be used to create cake rolls, biscuit cookies, nut logs, mince patties, and candy sushi. It's dishwasher-safe and measures 12 inches by2-1/2 inches by 2-1/2 inches.

MIU Silicone Basting Brush with Stainless-Steel Handle Review

MIU Silicone Basting Brush with Stainless-Steel HandleI have purchased many regular basting brushes (natural bristles and synthetic)but the results were always the same. I mostly use basting brushes for breads and would always end up with Bristles in my bread. I stumbled upon this type of brush while searching Amazon. I ended up buying this one and really love it! I haven't had it long and have only used it on basting bread but I think it would work really well on any food you previously used bristle/boar type basters on. I highly recommend this baster.

Bodum Assam 17-Ounce Tea Press Review

Bodum Assam 17-Ounce Tea PressOkay, I admit, cute is a big draw, however, as most Bodum products, this is a very functional item.
JUST THE RIGHT SIZE:
This is a perfect size as a personal teapot. It holds a full 16 oz., about 2 mugs worth. For my purposes, it is enough to drink in one sitting of reading a chapter in a book. Though it cools, it does not cool enough to be unpalatable for the 2 mug capacity.
PLASTIC INSERT COULD BE BETTER DESIGNED TO STAY PUT WHILE POURING:
The plastic insert, though it has these ear things to catch on the glass pot, when you are pouring the last bit of tea, is inclined to plop out.You need to hold the top on, while pouring that last bit. It is too bad this does not rotate in, so that it latches better. If you have a cat sitting on your lap while reading two hands are just not available.
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO STOP BREWING MAKE SURE PLUNGER IS ABOVE WATER LEVEL:
I found that if the plunger is below the water level, it quickly drops, stopping the brewing process, you need to be sure to leave it above the water level to avoid this.It is too bad it was not done a bit different to avoid this.I found I had to play with it a bit to get it where I wanted, prior to stopping the tea from steeping.Once it is done it does a great job of stopping the steeping.Just don't try to say that out loud.
DON'T KNOW HOW IT IS WITH LOOSE TEA:
I only used this with tea bags, as I had no loose tea on hand.I don't know how it will do.However the holes in the basket looked a bit large, so a very fine tea may get out; creating sludge.
OVERALL QUALITY:
Bodum does a nice job designing. I liked this tea pot without a protruding spout. It takes up less room, and is not so vulnerable in the dishwasher. I was concerned that it would weep down the side of the pot when I poured, but it did not.I am a tad bit dissappointed in the plastic insert in that it falls out easy, but for the price I think it is okay.
