Haier TST240SS Stainless-Steel Long-Slot 4-Slice Digital Toaster Review

I saw a toaster with a single long slot used on a TV cooking show once and have wanted to get one ever since.I do a lot of baking, including baking rustic breads.Because they are rustic loaves, slises usually do not fit in regular length toaster slots.Then I saw this baby.Not only is it a long slot toaster, but it has two of them.I was sold.I ordered one right away.In fact I had to wait because Amazon had not yet relieced them for shipping.

Upon arrival, I was not disappointed.It worked just as I had hoped.Not only does it work great for long slices, but it is the best toaster I have ever had period.Once you learn what settings to use for a given type of bread, be it plain old white, wheat, bagels, english muffins, etc., all you have to do is use that setting next time and it turns out perfect.I have not tried the warming rack yet, but I don't see any reason why it would not work great as well.

Salter 11-Pound Electronic Scale with Stainless Steel Top Review

I originally purchased a Soehlne Hippo scale and gave it four stars.It went "bonkers" in less than 30 days, so I updated my review and would have downgraded it to "1" star, if I had been able to do so.I replaced the defective scale with the Salter 6055, which was the other scale that I considered purchasing.So far, I'm extremely pleased with the Salter.If it lasts longer than 30 days (the Soehlne didn't), then it's definitely a 5 star piece of equipment.The scale is more compact than the Soehlne, much more "hefty" in feel, and very much easier to use.The on/off, tare, and kg/lb buttons require only a light touch to operate.The readout is clear and actually shows weights in both odd and even amounts.The ounce/lb. readout shows amounts in 1/8 oz. increments; very nice touch.The removeable weighing platform is extremely handy; if you're a "messy" baker, which I am, you don't have to fret about water or soap damage to the electronic components.Based on the short time I've had to try out this item, I'd definitely purchase a Salter product instead of a Soehlne.

Polder KSC-303-95 Digital Glass Top Kitchen Scale, Black Review

OK, so I bought this from a local hardware store and not Amazon. Hold the rotten tomatoes! :-)

Price was about the same as Amazon, it was the only brand the store had, and I needed one right then. I use it every day for portioning out foods. Now I can be sure that everyone gets the same amount of hamburger! :-) It has all the basic features; ounces (to one decimal place) or grams selection, tare weight and auto off. If there's any quibble, the instruction book says that the machine shuts down after three minutes. In practice it's more like one minute. Not a problem for me. This scale is definitely worth a look. Five stars!

Forgot to mention that it will also do double duty as a home postal scale on occasion. Seems to be pretty accurate, too.

4-23-10: While the scale continues to function properly, I thought to note one point that could be a problem. Two points, actually; the front corners come to a sharp point. I accidently bumped into one the other day and, "OW", that's sharp! The bottom of the scale bevels up to meet the top and they meet in a rather sharp edge. This, I thought, is not safe. My skin wasn't broken in this incident but I think it easily could have with enough force. I took an old emery finger nail file and rounded the edges.You may want to consider this if you are thinking about buying this scale.
