All-Clad Stainless 12-Quart Tall Stock Pot with Lid Review

All-Clad Stainless 12-Quart Tall Stock Pot with LidI admit, I never felt more skeptical when debating whether to buy this product, but then a miracle hit me when I saw there was one used item for this product selling for $240 by Warehouse Deals. My jaw literally dropped and thought Amazon was joking, but snagged it immediately.I felt like the luckiest man in the world.

I don't think I need to tell others how perfectly this thing simmers stock, and even how perfectly this thing looks, but like with all of All-Clad's cookware, I expect to use this thing for the rest of my life. The only problem I would hate to complain about is that I thought it would be taller, despite its title as a "tall" stock pot.I measured it and found it to be slightly wider than it is tall: I was expecting it to be taller than it was wide but this was never the case with all 12 quart stockpots I bought and measured.

If you are looking for cookware that will last you a lifetime, then buy any of All-Clad's products. Also, look out for Warehouse Deals selling used pieces of cookware that were never touched. Most people won't be as lucky as me finding 40% off of a product like this, but be on your toes nonetheless.

All-Clad Stainless 10-Quart Rondeau with Lid Review

All-Clad Stainless 10-Quart Rondeau with LidI had been looking for the perfect dutch oven for several years to do cassoulets, large simmering dishes etc. I wanted good stainless, very even heat (because of burn potential for those simmered recipes), 10 quarts (I would actually have preferred 12 - I am tired of having to spread my recipes across several pots) and a good looking pot.

I thought I had found my match in this rondeau. It bought it a few weeks ago (from a discounter I am afraid), and we have been playing with it almost everyday.

The rondeau is good looking and sturdy. It is solidly built, yet not as heavy as I thought it would be - a good point. The pot measures exactly 5" without the top, with an outside diameter of 13.5", and an inside diameter of approximately 12"3/4. The solid handles have an outside dimension of 13"9/16. With the burner on medium, they do not get significantly hot, and allow pick up with your bare hands. Be careful though! We have a large Wolf stove, and the rondeau barely fits on one burner - we cannot use a large pan on the next burner. I would say that the diameter is perfect for us in terms of the range, but I suspect that smaller ranges might not accommodate it as easily. The pot is, as usual with AllClad, fully lined to the rim. The rim is lipped, making a pour easier. The lid is well built, with a strong handle, and an outside diameter of 13"3/4.

My nitpicks:
- I would have preferred it a tad taller and narrower: it is very wide and surprisingly short (i had not realized how short when I ordered it). because of the large circumference, to cook 1" below the rim already involves the loss of 2 quarts.
- the lid for this expensive pot does not fit perfectly. Its inside rim is probably 1/2" short to be able to seal the opening better. You can move it left and right when it is on the top of the pot.

I would have loved to love this piece. As it is, I think I am going to really use it a lot and I really, really like it. I am not in love yet:-)

UPDATE Feb 17, 2010: after 2.5 months of use, I find the rondeau really a very good pot - excellent for a simmer, with good capacity and good looks. I still think the top could be better fitting. All in all, I look at it as a 4.5 star product.

All-Clad Stainless 8-Quart Stockpot Review

All-Clad Stainless 8-Quart StockpotWhen purchasing our original All-Clad cookware, we explicitly went for the 6-qt Dutch oven/stockpot, since we are a family of two. While the 6-qt has served us well for several years, I discovered I'd need the slightly greater volume when making some fruit preserves this summer. So I bought the 8-qt.
It's been a joy to own and use. Unlike the 6-qt, whose handles get a mite warm after long stove-top cooking, the 8-qt handles rarely get hot, even after cooking on a gas range for a couple of hours. I don't regret our original purchase decision, but I do like the 8-qt version a bit better than the 6-qt now.
