Cuisinart CSK-150 1500-Watt Nonstick Oval Electric Skillet Review

I was a little nervous when I bought this skillet, since at the time there were no product reviews on it, but I was desperate, and since I had had good luck with other Cuisinart products, I took the chance.Am I glad I did!We were just beginning a major kitchen remodel, which meant that for at least two months I would have to improvise cooking facilities for 5 adults and a grandchild.This skillet has been a real workhorse for me, and a genuine lifesaver (and budget-saver) during the remodel.Its cost was no more than 2 dinners for my family at a moderate-cost restaurant, and I saved that much the first week by cooking those dinners at home in this skillet instead.Its large capacity makes it extremely versatile.I've used it to fry chicken, make one-pan dinners, cook bacon and eggs, frozen blintzes, pot roast, stir-fry meals, you name it. It makes a beautiful risotto, and I've even used it to cook corn on the cob and boil potatoes.Everything came out exactly as I'd hoped, or better. I am especially happy with the Cuisinart's solid, sturdy base that won't let the skillet tip over and endanger the cook (or the curious grandchild).I also love the sturdy nonstick surface, which after two months of frequent use is still like new, in contrast to some nonstick pans I've had where the coating scratches or wore off so quickly that by the 3rd or 4th use the food had to be chipped out.The temperature control responds very quickly, too. You can certainly buy a cheaper electric skillet, but if you use it frequently, a cheap pan will be trash in a short time and you may not be happy with the way it performs in that short lifetime.This Cuisinart is worth every penny, and I expect to be using mine for a long, long time.

Presto 06852 16-Inch Electric Skillet with Glass Cover Review

The 16" size of this Presto skillet actually ended up saving room in my kitchen because it replaced both an electric griddle and an old 12" electric skillet. This pan can be used for all kinds of cooking: griddling, frying, grilling, braising, roasting, even baking. The sides are high enough to use it as a chicken fryer or for stirfry. I can check how bacon is frying through the glass lid, minimizing spatter, if any. The temperature control is accurate and the pan heats up quickly, unlike my electric stovetop. In fact, you can get a perfect simmer by turning the knob down just till the light goes out. Also nothing sticks to it. The only two things you have to remember are: 1)spray it with Pam or some other cooking spray the first time you use it (just the first time), and 2)to maintain the nonstick coating, never soak it in water for extended periods (you won't need to soak it, it cleans up fast and easy). I really like this skillet and recommend it highly. I bought it in February and have used it regularly ever since.

NOTE: It is now May 2008 and I still use this electric skillet at least once or twice a week. It has held up beautifully and still looks new. I have to tighten the leg screws now and then but I'm not complaining. I would give this pan six stars if I could.
NOTE: It is now October 2008 and we still use this skillet a couple of times per week at least. It takes about 3 minutes to clean after it cools. I can cook just about anything in it. I like its temperature accuracy and the quick control I have over the heat. I use it all the time.
NOTE: It's now February 2009, and two years since I bought this skillet. I still use it at least once a week and it is holding up just fine. Other than tightening the leg/handle screws now and then, it works as well as the day I received it.
NOTE: It's now January 2010 and the skillet is still going strong. No problems with it at all. We use it every weekend for egg & pancake breakfasts with all the trimmings.

CucinaPro 1453 Stainless Steel Round Classic Electric Skillet 12 Inch Review

I'm very satisfied with my purchase.I wanted a stylish electric skillet.I did not want one with a non-stick coating, as those tend to flake off over time.I wanted something that had enough eye-appeal to use on a buffet table or to carry to potlucks. Typically, I use this skillet for lightly fried Italian dishes like scallopini, breaded zucchini, and chicken piccata.Having a temperature dial is useful when making these dishes as you can easily keep the oil at proper temperature to crisp the food without getting it soggy.This skillet does tasks that my deep fryer and crock pot do not do well.Basically, a deep fryer is too large for scallopini, and a crock pot is too deep for certain buffet presentations.Recently, I took it to a pot luck and used it to serve Buffalo wings.The instructions indicated that the pan needs to be "seasoned" before first use to avoid sticking. I did have some complications in seasoning the pan.When I called customer service, they said the easiest way to season the pan is to cook bacon in it.Any excuse to eat bacon is usually a good one.I did manage to properly season my pan and I do not have problems with sticking.The glass lid is nice.It has a tiny hole in it to allow steam to escape.

Oster 3001 12-Inch Electric Frying Pan Review

This is our second Oster 12 inch Glass Lid Electric Skillet 3001.The first one still works beautifully and we love it so much that we are ordering another.We use it for practically everything you can imagine cooking in a skillet.We poach salmon, fry bacon, make potroast etc. etc. etc. We love the tip feature it is great for basting eggs, the glass lid so you can keep an eye on things, the even cooking throughout the pan, the max temperature gives you searing capability, you can wipe the pan clean between cooking individual items (for example, cook your bacon, remove, cook your potatotes, remove and wipe the pan with a paper towel then cook your eggs), you can also cook burritoes to a golden brown by (thawing them and cooking them 15 mins on each side on high simmer) and both the simmer and warm are exactly what you get, all of this in one pan and for our family we will have 2 of these fabulous skillets. Precise Heat Electric Skillet Review

After finally catching this item at a price $50 less than when I first saw it, I am ecstatic that I didn't buy it at the higher price because it isn't worth it.For one, as someone else mentioned, it isn't level, which is quite evident when oil or water is added.I too moved it around to various locations with the same lopsided results.Next, as high as this set was at one time, ($90), one would expect it to be the highest quality of stainless steel, 18/10.The manufacturer claims that the 5 ply cookware consists of 18/8 stainless (304 series) and aluminum alloys.I've read that 18/8 is also high quality but that leaves much to question when the manufacturer suggests using plastic utensils rather than metal ones since those can damage and scratch the finish, which can lead to food tasting metallic.

Not using metal utensils seemed odd since I can use metal utensils in my All Clad stainless skillet without any reservations. With suspicions raised, I got a magnet and surprise, the pan almost snatched it out of my hand and it stuck!It doesn't stick to the All Clad.I thought the 300 series of stainless steel was supposed to be non-magnetic.I have several pieces of 18/10 stainless cookware and a magnet will not stick to any of them.So, it's hard to say what this skillet is actually made out of.I have been looking for an explanation but most say that magnets will not stick to 304 series stainless or 18/8.

Next up is the mysterious ring of white dots that surround the heating element.These appeared after I used the skillet for the first time to fry chicken.I've tried vinegar, stainless steel cleaner, and Soft Scrub, but it's still there, except for that spot where I took a Scotchbrite pad to it and lo and behold, it scratched it up!So now it's spotted and scratched!What a winner!

Now on to the stainless steel lid that's supposed to double as a stovetop skillet or griddle if you flip it over.It does have an encapsulated bottom, it's somewhat thin looking though, and I'm expecting it to start wobbling around on the stovetop at any time!Fortunately, I already have a griddle so I won't have to put this lid to a test that it will probably fail.Lodge Logic Pro 20-by-10-7/16-Inch Cast-Iron Grill/Griddle

I have a variety of high end cookware pieces to gauge this against, and in my opinion, this set is not to be equated with high quality.I wouldn't recommend it and am seriously considering sending it back because I'm not comfortable with using it since it's doesn't seem to have the same properties as my other stainless steel cookware and those unexplained white spots sort of give me the heebie jeebies!
