Circulon Elite 11-Inch Square Griddle Review

This is a very nice griddle.Looks exactly like my Circulon fryer pan.It makes great pancakes, (looking forward to grilled sandwiches).To the lady who doesn't think you can put it in the dishwasher.I think it says that you can on the instructions, but why?It takes a squirt of soap and about 5 seconds and its clean and ready to go again.I swear I have never cooked anything on Circulon that doesn't usually just wipe right off of it.It has a smooth finished bottom that won't scratch a ceramic glass oven top.Heats up evenly and cooks great.Really nice rubberized and stainless handle.Stays cool and gives a good grip.

Mamma Ro Napkin Holder Review

I've owned Mamma Ro dishware and pottery for two decades now, and their production quality has stayed consistently high throughout. This was a missing piece to our set, and I'm glad to finally be able to review it.

The set includes a square earthenware container with raised edges, and a heavy earthenware napkin weight shaped like a leaf (to hold down the napkins). The set is heavy and sturdy, and (like all Mamma Ro tableware) should last for years. The main container is large enough to function as a centerpiece to your table, and can be used to hold something besides napkins. It has raised letters on the inside center ("Mamma Ro"), so it doesn't make a good baking dish.

Using this with paper napkins, I've found that leaving the leaf in place impairs usability (trying to slide out a paper napkin will pull the leaf with it, which might cause it to chip) so I'm going to set it aside. The product is expensive for a napkin holder, but it is quite elegant and can be used for other purposes. Price is the only reason for a four star rating. Build quality and overall satisfaction rate 5 stars.

Global 2-1/2-Inch Bird's Beak Peeling Knife Review

Among my assorted bird's beak paring knives, this one has a special place. There's no hiding place for any transfer of salmonella bacteria from poultry to produce, for this knife is made of a single piece of steel, and the solid handle has good weight. (Not all knives in this line have a solid handle.) Furthermore, it stands up to use and abuse, unlike any other knife I've ever had.
I bought mine in a specialty knife store (which has since gone out of business) close to ten years ago. After a nameless family member helped out in the kitchen, it seemed to have disappeared, and I mourned for this little knife. Turns out said family member had accidentally dumped it in the composter, along with a small mountain of vegetable waste. I boiled it and it rejoined the household.
Comfortable to hold, it does a variety of paring tasks well in the kitchen. Slipperiness mentioned in reviews of other knives in this line has not been a problem. Weight and balance are excellent. I like the completeness with which it can be cleaned.
If you have a kitchen or flower garden, you'll find good uses for it outdoors as well. I grow edible ginger, as well as the kind with flowers. For cutting the rhizome from the plant, this can't be beat. I also use it when it's time to thin the heliconias and strip old leaves off lilies.
In perusing reviews about other knives in this line, there appears to be concern about sharpening the Japanese-made steel. I use a Chantry knife sharpener and find it brings this knife back to an acceptable edge.
BOTTOM LINE: If you like the bird's beak style of paring knife, you are likely to find a use for this one. Amazon's price is excellent. I paid about twice the amount and would recommend it even at that price. If you've never tried a bird's beak paring knife, this one is reasonably priced and especially versatile for the reasons mentioned.

All-Clad Copper Core 2-1/2-Quart Windsor Pan with Lid Review

I purchased this pan as a "second" at Marshalls for $119.00. Still have yet to figure out why it was a second as it is in perfect condition. In any event, this is a typical All Clad high quality pan. Still trying to determine if the "copper core" line is really that much different than the normal stainless line. I also own Mauviel copper cookware and there is a HUGE difference in heat control from that to the All Clad Copper Core. With the Mauviel the heat change is nearly instantaneous but with the AC not so much. All that said I own a ton of AC and love every piece, especially for the price because when you start to get into copper it's a whole new world of expense. This Windsor pan has a terrific shape for the reduction of sauces. It is very heavy and stays put on the stove. I think I will be very happy with this pan and I bet you would be as well. However, I feel lucky I got it for the price I did because the $295.00 price here seems too high for this pan in comparison to the stainless line of AC, and I'm just not sure there is much of a difference.
