Kuhn Rikon 12-Quart Duromatic Stockpot Pressure Cooker Review

I just received my 12 quart Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker a week ago and I've used it three times already.I was replacing my 30 year old 6 quart Presto cooker mainly because I wanted a larger utensil.I wasn't dissatisfied with my Presto, but until I tried this Kuhn Rikon, I didn't realize that such a gap existed in terms of quality.

I am so glad I chose this Kuhn Rikon 12 quart model.It is a very well built, heavy gauge stainless steel cooker with a nice heavy bottom to help heat it evenly. The handles are sturdy don't get hot while cooking on my gas range. The lid attaches and twists into place very easily with no awkwardness or sticking.The lid gasket is thick and heavy duty. There is no jiggler weight to get lost.

The unit is very quiet.It is so quiet that I almost didn't notice when it had come up to pressure the first time I used it.You have to visually monitor it until you reach your cooking pressure and adjust your heat source to maintain it.There is no escaping rush of steam or hissing jiggler to alert you.But this is in no way a drawback.The cooker comes up to pressure quickly, and thanks to the red lines on the pop up pressure indicator, it is easy to adjust your heat to maintain the desired pressure.The faintest wisp of steam escapes from under the top steam deflector during cooking.

If you want to release pressure quickly, you can push down on the central pressure valve with your bare finger without getting burned.It gets a little warm, but does not get hot.All of the steam is deflected by the round deflector on top.You can also push the pressure stem down with a spoon if you prefer.

There are no negatives with this cooker from a usability perspective.I believe it is the best pressure cooker on the market.The only thing stopping this cooker from completely cornering the market is the hefty price.If it were priced 50% lower, it would easily take over market share from other contenders.

Fagor Splendid 10-Quart Pressure Cooker/Canner Review

This is an excellent pressure cooker at an excellent price. I do feel they should have included a trivet and metal plate. All of the accessories are extra.

I ordered the canning rack which holds 4 pints. I don't believe it would be wise to try to can quarts in this one, but the directions were not clear. In fact, I would have given this a much higher rating if they were, but I had trouble figuring out how to use it...and one does want to follow directions where a pressure cooker is concerned. They kept referring to to pressures, hi and low. I finally realized the 6 qt model has both but not the 10 and the directions were applicable to each model. The 10 quart pressures at 15 lbs....FAST!

I once had Fagor 6 qt model and themetal was heavier than this one. However, the upside is that it is easier to lift up to pour things from it which is a plus if you're elderly as I am.

I really like they way this cooks; fast, easy to clean. It's beautifully designed pan.

There are numerous uses for non-pressure cooking too. Big enough for a stock pot, cooking spagetting for a crowd, etc etc.

I haven't canned with it. However, I plan on making a big pot of soup and canning what's left.

One reviewer mentioned that you can't fill it over 2/3 full. That is true of ANY pressure cooker. So if you are debating between a 6 quart or a 10 quart, go for the 10 quart.

There are additional accessories for this..canning rack, bucket insert (for spaghetti, etc.)I recommend getting the lid for non-pressured food and keep the pressure lid for pressure.

I don't think you will be disappointed with this product.

Fagor 2-by-1 Splendid 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set Review

I am a self avowed pressure cooker junky. I have about 7 various brands and sizes and I have to say that with this combo of 4 and 8 qt models I'll probably never use any of my other ones again. They are built so well... They reminded me of Iron Clad. Plus they are so much quieter than my older style ones. I wish I had spent the money sooner. And, they are full 15 pounders, not the usual 12 lb ones I've had in the past... Big difference.
All I can say is spend the bucks and get the last ones you'll ever want to own.

Fagor Duo Combi 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set Review

Fagor is the least expensive brand that I am aware of which also has the 'modern' features desirable in pressure cookers. To learn more about pressure cookers and what is desirable go to missvickie.com (a non-commercial site devoted to pressure cooker enthusiasts.) Some of these features deal with safety, e.g. you don't have to worry about plugging the steam escape with Fagor. Fagor cookers also reach a pressure of 15psi (which is important.) Unless a brand advertises that they do reach 15psi, assume that they don't. I suggest getting an extra gasket when you buy the item as you will need one at one point (they don't last forever). I must also compliment the company on its service. I bought this item, and sent in a rebate form (for a free stock pot). They sent me a nice paella pan by mistake. I was satisfied, however I called them to make sure that there was no mistake. They answered the phone right away (without the common maze of annoyingly slow and complex menu options.) The woman I talked to was very personable. This woman checked on what happened, called me back, and told me that they would also send the stock pot to me, and for me to go ahead and keep the paella pan.I will update this if needed as time goes on, as I have more experience using this item.

while this kuhn rikon is certainly pricey compared to other cookers, the quality and elegance is unsurpassed by anything out on the market.i really like the shape of this particular model because it allows me to easily braise and cook whole pork loins or roasts since the opening is flatter and shallower then KR's other models.Kuhn also sells a pyrex glass lid that fits on this cooker so it can be pressed into service as a giant saucepan or skillet, or for bringing food directly to the table in the pot. this cooker is almost always used in our kitchen for meal preparation - can't imagine life without it!

I just got one. I tried cooking an egg with no oil in it on medium heat. It stuck a little, but I could clean it off with one wipe of a paper towel. I can't do this with any other pan I own. With just a slight amount of butter (a pat cut 1/16th inch thick), I repeated the test and was able to flip the egg with ease and there was NO stcking at all. It cleaned off with just dabbing a paper towel along the surface. The outside of the pan also has non stick sides, so if you get some slop on the sides on the outside of the pan, it wipes off as well. The heat distribution was superb as evidenced by the changing pattern from clear to white of the egg white and the uniformity of browning of the egg surface. I intend to use this pan for omlettes and crepes. It exceeds any other fry / saute pan I've used.
You can use metal utensils on this pan: amazing. The handle is suppossed to be good to 500 deg F. I finally found a non stick pan I can use!
I have Le Creuset, multiple stainless, plain cast iron and several (retired) non stick (including Corning and Analon). The eggs are cleaner than from cast iron. In the Le Cruset or stainless, a soaking is required for the same test.

Cuisinart Greenware Eco-Friendly Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set Review

This set is the most amazing one I have worked with.I have used various other nonstick pans, stainless steel, cast iron... and i prefer these pans over all.One thing to note is that the nonstick surface scratches right off of these pans if you use any kind of metal.As the pans have exposed metal on them it is not a good idea to stack them on top of each other or to let pile up in the sink.This has not at all been a problem for me because the cleanup on these pans is super fast.Get yourself a set of bamboo kitchen utensils in addition to this set and your in business for some eco-friendly low toxicity cooking.
