Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12-Inch Round Grill Pan Review

I purchased this Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12 Inch Round Grill Pan along with the Calphalon Unison Nonstick 12 Inch Round Griddle Pan and love it! The "nonstick sear" surface used on this grill pan does just what it says, giving just enough grip to hold meat in place while still releasing easily when flipping the meat or removing it from the pan.

I will confess that I have not used this pan anywhere near as much as the griddle, but that is simply because we do not grill a lot of meats on the stove. I have done several steaks, however, and they came out juicy and delicious. I'm usually a picky eater and never eat the fat on a steak, but this pan cooked a ribeye so well that I ate the whole thing! The grill surface kept the meat from frying on the bottom, but it still retained plenty of moisture and all the flavor. (These steaks were not marinated, just seasoned with salt and pepper.)

The main points for this pan are:
* Nonstick (just enough grab for cooking meat, but nothing gets stuck to the pan)
* Oven-safe (have not tried this pan in the oven, only the griddle)
* Easy to clean (wipe with a paper towel first to get the grease)
* Handle stays cool while cooking (except in the oven)
* Large size can cook more food at once

While I have not tried cooking anything but steaks with this pan, it is by far the best grill pan I've tried. It probably won't see quite as much use as the griddle pan, but I don't see myself cooking a steak any other way from now on. Highly recommended.

Note: As with any nonstick cookware, avoid using metal cookware. I bought a set of silicone-coated tongs for flipping steaks and they work great.

Nopro Enamel Cast Iron Panini Press Review

The Norprp cast iron panini press is a very good and useful gadget.I had really gotten tired of using a filled-up tea kettle as the top weight on my grilled cheese sandwiches.The press has just the right amount of weight, covers a wide area on my 11-inch calphalon grill pan, and is easy to clean (just a quick wipe-and-dry).The reason I gave it four instead of five stars is that the ridges on the underside are pretty useless.You can't really heat this thing up enough on the gas burner to use it to simultaneously grill the top-side of your sandwich as the product lit promises.It never gets hot enough and loses heat as soon as it comes off the flame.So for me it's just a fancy weight -- but that's what I bought it for.

Tools of the Trade Belgique Hard Anodized 11" Grill Pan Review

I love to cook so when I first saw this Grill Pan I thought I'd give it a try, and I'm very glad that I did.It's a good size - can hold at least 6 pieces of chicken comfortably with space left over.Cleaning up is a breeze. Give this Grill Pan a try especially if you're into preparing meals with your good health in mind. I will certainly purchase for both my sisters for Christmas.

Anolon Advanced 12-Inch Shallow Round Grill Pan Review

Anolon 'Advanced' is the much higher quality, and, for some quirky reason, is priced $15 less than the Calphalon!I pan-grilled some filet mignon steaks (am savoring them now) and was impressed at the signature 'sear marks'.Cleanup is a breeze and reviewers should note that the Anolon 'Advanced' line has not been plagued with the shedding of the non-stick coating (as both the 'Commercial' and 'Simply Calphalon' lines have been).

This will not take the place of an outdoor grill, but it does bring a taste of summer into the cold winter months.'Cook's Illustrated' also gave the Anolon 'Advanced' 12" Deep Covered Grill Pan high marks, but this shallower, non-covered grill pan is $25 less and besides, who covers a grill pan when it is grilling anyway?

PS:I'm glad I 'recycled' my 10+ pound Lodge, cast-iron grill to my weight-lifting son for Christmas!:o)

Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick Panini Pan and Press Review

I was looking at electric panini grills, but didn't really want another appliance that I would have to store on a shelf or cupboard.I found the Calphalon panini grill pan to be easy to use, clean and store.It goes on the stovetop.I preheat the pan with the stainless steel lid, while I put my sandwich together.Then I brush the pan and bread with olive oil, put the sandwich on the pan and put the lid on top of the sandwich.I let it grill for a few minutes, turn over the sandwich and grill the other side.I get those great grill marks, and the lid helps flatten the sandwich and heats it too.I've also used the pan for salmon fillets, hamburgers, sausages.It does a beautiful job.Cleans up well because it's nonstick! Easy to store as well. Love this pan!

Commercial Non-Stick Family Porcelain Broiler and Pan Review

This broiler is exactly what I was looking for and cooks beautifully.As others have mentioned though, it is very difficult to clean.I tried spraying it with oil before using it which made it even worse.The areas where there was oil and no food will not get clean and may be damaged.
The food comes out perfectly though and the size of this broiler is perfect as well.I have a fairly small oven and this fits in with maybe half an inch to spare.

All-Clad LTD 12-Inch Round Nonstick Grille Pan Review

I am not a big fan of the All Clad LTD line but I do love this pan.I much prefer the All Clad polished stainless steel line (I have almost every piece and love it). This grill is a perfect size for grilling for 1-4 people.I debated on the grande size, I decided that since I don't grill everyday it didn't make sense to spend the extra money and deal with storing the larger size.Also, I selected the round style over the square, my stove burners are round so I figured that the round style made more sense for me.
I often marinade chicken tenders in Emeril Lagasse's marinade (he has several different marinades that you can find in your local supermarket) a day in advance and heat up this pan and toss on the chicken.I usually make a veggie or two and some rice, it is a very quick and easy dinner and is also very healthy!You can also use this pan for everything from burgers to a tuna steak.
This pan is not dishwasher safe due to the nonstick surface, but don't worry it is a breeze to clean.I have the George Foreman grill that has been sitting in the cabinet collecting dust since I bought this pan.I don't like the George Foreman grill because you can't really wash the grill surface very well.The grill surface should be removable so you can really clean it.This pan is very, very well made and is backed by a lifetime warranty.Sometimes this pan is sold as a special..., if you see it grab it.It is a steal at that price.Once you try All Clad you will be hooked too! Highly recommended! A+!
