Nopro Enamel Cast Iron Panini Press Review

The Norprp cast iron panini press is a very good and useful gadget.I had really gotten tired of using a filled-up tea kettle as the top weight on my grilled cheese sandwiches.The press has just the right amount of weight, covers a wide area on my 11-inch calphalon grill pan, and is easy to clean (just a quick wipe-and-dry).The reason I gave it four instead of five stars is that the ridges on the underside are pretty useless.You can't really heat this thing up enough on the gas burner to use it to simultaneously grill the top-side of your sandwich as the product lit promises.It never gets hot enough and loses heat as soon as it comes off the flame.So for me it's just a fancy weight -- but that's what I bought it for.

Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick Panini Pan and Press Review

I was looking at electric panini grills, but didn't really want another appliance that I would have to store on a shelf or cupboard.I found the Calphalon panini grill pan to be easy to use, clean and store.It goes on the stovetop.I preheat the pan with the stainless steel lid, while I put my sandwich together.Then I brush the pan and bread with olive oil, put the sandwich on the pan and put the lid on top of the sandwich.I let it grill for a few minutes, turn over the sandwich and grill the other side.I get those great grill marks, and the lid helps flatten the sandwich and heats it too.I've also used the pan for salmon fillets, hamburgers, sausages.It does a beautiful job.Cleans up well because it's nonstick! Easy to store as well. Love this pan!

Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned Round Cast-Iron Grill Press Review

This is something that had been on my wish list for a while.I had not used one before but I liked the concept.Finally got one for my birthday a couple of years ago, and this has grown into one of my favorite tools.For bacon, nothing is better.I cook up 5 pounds at a time and freeze in 4-slice packs, and this little beauty makes the cooking process easy.Nice flat pieces that are great for that after-work BLT.Works great for panini and is definitely cheaper and easier to use than a specialized machine that does the same job for 5 times the price.
This is a real low-tech old school way of cooking that proves over and over again why its still so popular.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron 10 1/4 Inch Square Skillet Grills Review

The only reason why this doesn't get the last star, in my book, is because of its somewhat limited usefulness.However, if you live in an apartment or otherwise anywhere where grilling is impossible, this is the next best thing....like all other Le Creuset products this heats evenly and wonderfully and takes abuse.I got mine as part of a 6-piece set (along with a Dutch Oven, Baking Pan, and Casserole) and sorta at first saw this as a "filler" piece.However, to it's credit, this pan can do even easilly-burned items like tofu dogs and fake bacon WONDERFULLY, which shocked me--I was convinced that nothing could give a "grilled" effect to those items. I even got adventerous the first time I used it and grilled some apple rings.I panicked when some sugar seemed to be burnt on for good despite a good soaking, but after the pot had been dried and put away for 48 hours it flaked right off.Forget what you know about nonstick surfaces, btw, and banish those bad memories of cruddy, flaking Teflon from the 70's.Just treat this well (I only use wooden utensils on it) and it will treat you well.Follow the instructions and enjoy!Just be sure to use a potholder and realize that once this thing gets hot it STAYS hot for a LONG time.
