Back to Basics 7-Quart Aluminum Home Steam Canner Review

I have been canning for 20 years, I have had this canner system for 15 and I will not ever go back to boiling water bath canning ever again.This canner is not meant to replace a pressure canner for low acid foods. It is a shallow pan with a rack and a large lid. The shallow pan is filled with water and boiled, the rack fits over the boiling water and the jars are put on the rack (7 quarts at a time). When the water boils, it creates steam- steam is at least 212 degree water- steam can actually get hotter than boiling water. When the steam is at a certain level (in the instructions) you begin timing your jars. The reason that this is so easy is that it doesn't take 20 minutes after you put your jars into the rack just to come back to a boil, thus saving a lot of time. I highly recommend this product. I just made salsa and it took me 30 minutes for 14 jars- In a traditional pot it would have taken at least 2 hours. That is the difference!

Aroma 10-Cup Programmable Rice Cooker - ARC830TC Review

I had a Zojirushi NHS-10 and worked fine. I gave it to my sister-in-law...grin.

Latter I decided I wanted another cooker and just came upon this. It seemed to cheap. I ordered it from Amazon. This thing is a DEAL. We usually cook between 4-6 cups of rice at a time.It makes perfect rice, if you use the cup at 180cc..

We have 5 kids and been using this 2-4 times a month for last two years.

I like it most of all as it has limited options and cooks only rice.

All-Clad LTD 3 Quart Cassoulet with Lid Review

Once I got a set of pots that included a "saucier" and I fell in love with the concept of the gently sloping sides. I guess this pot is not exactly a saucier because it doesn't have a long handle.However, apart from missing the long handle, it acts like a saucier and is excellent for reducing liquids as well as fitting perfectly on the small burners on my electric stove, increasing the efficiency.

The pan looks excellent. We've kept it reasonably clean with a minimum of effort.I don't mind a bit of buildup of burnt whatever on the outside so I don't scrub it with anything other than the sponge, and while it doesn't look "shiny-new" we kind of like the "comfortably-used" look.We've not worn through the outer coating though I have used the pan pretty much every day for a year now.

The lid doesn't quite fit precisely and is a bit loose.It rests slightly on the inside of the curved lip.I suspect that it prevents moisture that builds on the lid from sneaking out the side and over the edge--if that's the case, then it was a good decision.

I'd prefer this with a long handle, but I've generally not had any trouble picking it up and pouring with only one hand.The handles stay fairly cool for a while, but I habitually reach for a potholder unless I've just used it to heat some soup for a couple minutes.

I was so happy with this that I bought one as a gift for my mother.

Imusa Aluminum Tamale, Seafood Steamer 20 Quart Review

I'm very pleased with this large stock pot.I borrowed an aluminum 20 qt stock pot last fall to do some canning.I enjoyed canning so much that I decided I wanted a stock pot of my own.Most of my cookwear is All-Clad or Calphalon.But a 20 qt stock pot in either brand is very expensive and the pot, itself, quite heavy.This Imusa aluminum pot suits my needs perfectly and is reasonably priced.It's sturdy enough and very light.So far, I've used it to cook turkey stock (post-Thanksgiving) and I've used it for canning.I intend to use it for cooking lobster.The steamer tray fits perfectly into the pot (which has a ridge on the inside for holding it in place).The steamer tray worked well for canning, too, keeping the jars off the bottom of the pot.Just remember that, unlike an All-Clad or other high end version of a large stock pot, this is aluminum inside and out.So nothing acidic (you probably already know that) in the Imusa.Don't cook tomato sauce in this.Don't add lemon to your stocks.You get what I mean.Happy cooking, everyone.

Granite Ware 3-Piece 33-Quart Crab and Crawfish Cooker with Steamer and Drainer Insert Review

This is a pretty big pot!I'd say you could steam about 3 1/2 dozen or a little more medium sized Maryland crabs.We steamed 3 dozen (but the crabs were a little small) and there was room left for a few more.The insert pot has holes at the bottom and sides which helps them steam faster than when the hole are just at the bottom.

Deni 7550 Digital Food Steamer Review

I love this steamer. I got it to replace a two-tiered steamer I'd gotten over ten years ago.It heats up quickly and steams evenly, even though the baskets are large. I love the timer - no more winding and turning - and it's easily cleaned. The baskets nest so that they only take up the room of one basket while it's in the cabinet.Overall, I'm very satisfied with this product. I'd purchase it again, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good steamer.
