Hamilton Beach 59785 2-Speed Hand Blender with Case, Black Review

We had a Rival immersion which was highly rated for a short time before I burned out the motor making whip cream.I since bought a regular mixer for making whip cream it does a far better job than an immersion blender.

I make a lot of cream soups and it is great for that without lugging out the big blender not to mention the clean up, the blender will soon be relegated to the basement as a back up.I like the case, it puts everything in one place and easy to store away.There is a milk shake attachment which is very nice and a whipping attachment, I suppose that would be much better for whip cream.I can see a lot of shakes and smoothies coming this summer with my new toy.

Someone mentioned clean up in the dish washer, a little tip for any immersion blender.As soon as I finish with it, I fill a glass or bowl with hot sudsy water and buzz it for a few seconds and then rinse, works great and just wipe off and put away,couldn't be easier.

Another hint if you get this one.It isn't entirely obvious or intuitive that the blender comes with the attachment adapter to use the shake and mixer already installed but doesn't work with the regular blender blade.You have to twist the attachment adapter off and install the blade.It may not make sense at the moment, but when you get it you will say,ah, that is what he meant.

My initial impression of this unit is very good.

I loved my Krups Open Master 404 until it stopped working recently.I found that The Krups, which had NO BLADE that touched the food so as to leave food on the blade as with most canopeners, is no longer made or avaialbe except on ebay.So, I started looking to see what is now available.I tried some other brands.These "other brands" had the typical "blade" that cut into the top of the can and the blade TOUCHED the food inside the can.Thus, food was left ON the blade.To me, after using the Krups for 7 years, this was/is VERY unsanitary---having part of the juice or syrup of the food left to dry out and collect germs on the blade.The only way to avoid having food left on the "cutting blade" of most canopeners is to wash the blade EVERY time you open a can.This isn't difficult, but it takes a minute or two which seems like a lot of effort when you're trying to fix a meal for yourself or your family.Enter the Hamilton Beach 76606.THIS ONE DOES NOT GET ANY FOOD ON ANY BLADE.In fact, I didn't SEE any blade on it that touches the food!So, it's as good, or almost as good, as my old Krups. Hamilton Beach 40898 Cool-Touch Cordless 8 Cup Electric Kettle Review

Most importantly, my wife loves it, and she is a gadget-phobe.I just bought a second one for my mother.

We have been using it for two months now, and no problems so far.

After my usual exhaustive search, I selected this tea kettle because it had the best combination of features.

PRO:
- All metal: stainless steel liner and no exposed heating element to accumulate scale buildup.The lid is plastic but it doesn't come into contact with the water.I really didn't like the idea of boiling water in contact with plastic.
- Cool touch exterior for safety and also it insulates the water inside, keeping it hotter after the kettle shuts off upon boiling.
- Nice balance for the handle - I find the electric kettles with the handle on the top to be much more difficult to lift and pour.This one has the handle on the side - much better.
- Wide mouth top is easy to fill and clean.The lid pivots in the middle - too hard to describe so I added a clip from the user manual.Easy to remove lid to clean, though as others mentioned it does get in the way a bit when you're filling the kettle.
- As with many other kettles, it is cordless -- the kettle lifts easily off and on from the corded base, and you can hide any extra power cord inside the base.

CON (none of these matter to me or my wife):
- No water level indication, but then if there were you would probably have connections that could leak over time and potentially plastic parts in contact with water.
- Water temperature is not adjustable.

Hamilton Beach 33141 4-Quart Oval Slow Cooker Review

I bought this cooker seven months ago, and really liked it.It's quite handsome, and I have no complaints about how it works.I've made many fine meals in it.Sadly, the knob broke a few weeks or a month ago.I glued it back together, but today it broke apart again.I don't think it will take a second gluing any better than the first, so now if I want to use it I have to use pliers or something, and I have to count clicks--which are not as distinct as I'd like--to know quite which setting it's on.

Such a shame this otherwise great cooker is now incredibly difficult to use because of such a "small" detail!

This was my first full size slow cooker (I have a 1.5 qt one too) and I've learned a couple of things I'll share for people looking for their first.The 4 quart size has been really good.I first bought it when I was living alone, so I'd have lots of leftovers, which I love.Now I live with my boyfriend, and the size is still good--we usually have enough left over for one or both of us to have lunch of it the next day.The oval shape has worked out well also; it's possible to fit larger things in it than I'd be able to in a round cooker of the same volume.

My next one, though, will be programmable.I'd thought the feature was silly, because you can only go from high to warm or low to warm, not high to low, or high to low to warm.Now that I have some experience using it, I see that the ability to switch to warm automatically at a certain time would be immensely useful, for those times when a recipe calls for 6 hours on low, but you'll be away from home for 8 hours.

Hamilton Beach 33144 Stay-or-Go 4-Quart Slow Cooker, White Review

NOTES: First, the "locking handles for easy transport": the locks are on the body of the slow cooker, so you can't take out the porcelain insert and lock the lid onto it; if you want it locked, you have to take the whole device.Second, I guess mostly because of the rubber gasket on the lid, the cooker creates a tightly sealed cooking compartment, and things cook differently as a result.Liquids don't cook off anywhere near as fast, and the flavors don't cook together quite the same.

PROS: The shape of the oval cooker is perfect. I've gotten a four-pound roast in the little thing.The temperature goes from just-warm to boiling, very versatile.It can go longer without attention because it retains moisture so well.

CONS: Some slow-cooker recipes may need tweaking; the cooking compartment is sealed pretty tightly whether or not the handles are locked (you're not supposed to cook with it sealed, but I do occasionally to concentrate flavors). More seriously, like most removable-insert crockpots, it wastes a lot of heat on the outside - it gets quite hot to the touch and is not efficient for summer use by any means.

Overall, for a small, not-too-expensive crockpot, it's really quite nice!I've now had it for quite a while, and cooked a lot of meals in it. Still works, still cleans up easily, dinner's routinely ready when I get home.

Custom Grind Coffee Grinder in Silver Review

Purchased this item from a Target -the most unlikely of places to find a quality item - over 6 years ago. It had been with me through my drip-coffeemaker phase, my french press phase, and now well into my espresso phase.It finally kicked the bucket yesterday when one of the plastic threads broke - mercifully it will not work if not properly sealed. Over the years I have over-filled it, under-filled it, put things other than coffee in it, and run it empty. never once did it show a sign of burning out. The only maintenance it required was to get the fine grounds out of the locking mechanism every now and then. I use a toothpick for this. I will be ordering from Hamilton Beach again, probably this exact product. It's so hard nowadays to find a machine that is both simple and reliable.
