Rosle Silicone Locking Tongs - 12" - Frontgate, 12" Review

Rosle Silicone Locking Tongs - 12' - Frontgate, 12'I know that the Oxo Good Grips 12-Inch Locking Tongs with Nylon Heads is rated well by a leading cooking magazine. However, the Oxo Good Grips 12-Inch Locking Tongs with Nylon Heads uses a nylon head. My experience with nylon cooking utensils is with spatulas and once it is heated directly (like on a fry pan), the nylon starts delaminating or fraying, even with the more expensive Calphalon professional series (I know, I own them). I also used my Rosle silicone coated tongs for grilling on my Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron Giant Reversible Grill/Griddle and the silicone head can take the direct heat without melting.

One of the things that is different with the Rosle tongs is that they are made with a heavy gauge stainless steel. All other similar shaped scalloped tongs are made by bending a thinner gauge stainless steel to form the handle. The fold creates a hollow where food can creep up the pincher, especially when using the tongs to grab flat noodles.By comparison, the underside of the Rosle's handles areas is wide open so that even if food collects under the handle, you can easily clean that area.

With all other traditional tongs like my favorite Edlund Restaurant Tongs - Scalloped: 12 INCH, I store them by putting one of the arms into a crock and letting the other arm hang outside. The only way I can store these in a kitchen crock is by sticking the entire tool in the crock (pincher ends up). Why should you care? Depending on how you store your kitchen tongs, it may take up more room (like my situation with a kitchen crock).

If you don't need non-stick cookware safe kitchen tongs, seriously look at the scalloped Edlund Restaurant Tongs - Scalloped: 12 INCH: they are my favorite kitchen tongs and are made in the US! The Edlund Restaurant Tongs - Scalloped: 12 INCH are priced about the same as the Oxos (Oxos are made in China). PROS: The pincher ends have a great grip, are precise, and even small amounts of food release from the silicone head. Also, silicone is a better non-slip material for moving ramekins and other ceramic cookware (Bain Marie). The under side of the tong handles are wide open making it easy to keep that area of the tongs clean.

The silicone does not melt or deform with high heat like nylon heads.

CONS: Have to get used to the locking mechanism.

They are expensive for tongs Made in China.
