I've had one of these 12" Revere skillets for a couple of years and really love it.Yes, it is heavy, but if you aren't cooking on gas, that weight gives you good contact with the burner surface, as well as good heat radiation.I think the helper handle is all important for dealing safely with a skillet that is as heavy as this one.It really makes handling the skillet very easy.The skillet can be used in the oven (follow the temperature instructions that come with it), so the helper handle makes it easy to get it into or out of the oven, or carry it to the table.
Make sure you follow the instructions that come with the skillet - never preheat the empty skillet at above medium heat or for more than 3 minutes without putting food (or at least oil) into it.I recommend using a timer and paying special attention to those instructions.Also, do not put the skillet under the tap to rinse it until it's cooled to no more than lukewarm.Taking those steps will preserve the life of the non-stick coating.This applies to any non-stick skillet, not just to Revere ware.
Invest in a couple of silicone spatulas, especially the kind that's shaped a bit like a spoon.Kaiser KaiserFlex Silicone Scraping Spoon is a good example of what I mean.Something such as that will give you absolute peace of mind when it comes to knowing that your spoon/spatula will not scratch your non-stick surface.It can be used in non-stick cookware, too.Use 2 of them together (like a salad fork and spoon) to combine ingredients in the skillet without sending them over the side.
I happened to have another maker's glass lid that fit the skillet almost perfectly, so I didn't get the Revere lid and can't comment on that.I do know that, using a lid that fits well and is at least slightly domed, you can learn to do everything from cornbread to mac & cheese to meatloaf on the stove top.(The trick is to add 1-2 tsp. of water before you put the lid on to help to steam potatoes, onions, celery, or other items that may not get done thoroughly without it, and gradually turn down the heat every 10-15 minutes until the dish is done.)A full 12" skillet holds about the same quantity as a 2-qt. casserole dish.Cooking in this way probably won't save you any time over baking in the oven, but it's cooler in the summer and cleanup is easy.
If you are a professional chef or wannabe, this probably isn't the skillet for you, but if you just want to use good techniques as a home cook, with even heating and easy cleanup, try this one.

I ordered this set & when it arrived the plastic lids were cracked. I returned it for another set & those lids were cracked also. I have a nice set of Revere bowls bought from a Revere store. These are not the same quality.
