I bought two of the 10.25 inch skillets because it seems like we never have enough fry pans and they seem to wear out the fastest - not because they aren't made as well but more because we use them more often and are probably rougher on them than the rest of the set of T-Fal cookware we own. When I say "wear out the fastest" by that I mean that even though the skillets did wear out quicker than the rest of the set I bought, they still lasted for several years. I think ours wore out faster because the hubs uses metal implements on them about half the time and also I stack my skillets by size, the biggest on the bottom and I'm thinking that this probably wears on the nonstick surface more than if you didn't do that.
This was my first pan with the thermo-spot heat indicator in the middle and I LOVE these! They are the cookware equivalent of a baby's butt. So smooth that you couldn't get anything to stick even if you wanted to. Now I really, really want the biggest fry pan with the lid.
T-Fal recommends that you "season" your pan prior to use and about every 10-15 times you run it through the dishwasher. It gives good instructions on how to season and is very simple. It just involves washing the pan by hand the first time, heating it on low/medium heat then adding about a tbs of cooking oil to the pan, rubbing the oil all over the inside and outside of the pan then wiping off well with papertowels.
The most important reason I bought these is that they are dishwasher safe. Being dishwasher safe is a HUGE deal with me. Free time/"me" time is a premium to me and it occurred to me years ago that if I spent 15 minutes a day washing dishes by hand that over the course of one year that would work out to be over 90 hours (minimum) of my time spent on dishes! Also, it was beyond wonderful over the holidays to be able to just load up the dishwasher then leave the kitchen to visit with my family and watch football.
If you are considering T-Fal, go to the T-Fal website, click on "products" then on "nonstick cookware". The page that comes up will have a place you can click on to compare the various models they make and whether or not they are dishwasher safe.
T-Fal does say that some dishwashers and some dishwasher detergents can adversely affect the outside finish of your pans but I've run this skillet through my dishwasher at least 6-7 times now and it still looks brand new. Some years ago I had a set of T-Fal that the first time I ran it through the dishwasher, it did lose a bit of shine - I had the black set and eventually it did become "ashy" looking on the outside in color. However, I've not had that problem with the hard enamel cookware that T-Fal makes.
I can't think of one thing I don't like about the two skillets I bought. They work great, look great and were a great price. A definite 5 star buy to me.
